The second half of our day in Chichicastenango was spent on a walking tour where we visited a mayan home, ceremonial space, and a cemetery. We could see the cemetery from the hill right outside our hotel – and it reminded me of san francisco – because of the colors. Not something typical of a cemetery, for sure. All the tombs are above ground at this cemetery which marks graves in a variety of ways, some with brightly colored miniature churches and others as mounds with name-bearing crosses or piles of fire-blackened rocks. Below are a few more photos from our time in Chichicastenango.
