Chichicastenango, guatemala.

I visited Guatemala over the holiday weekend – What an amazing place to see! Guatemala only gets 100,000 tourists a year, mostly from the states and Canada, so if you get a chance to get over there, definitely check it out!

We got to see a bit of the country, but Chichicastenango, was definitely somewhere that will always stand out in my mind. Chichicastenango is well known for its famous market days on Thursdays and Sundays where vendors sell handicrafts, food, flowers, textiles, pottery, pigs and chickens, (Yes, people sit there with chickens in their lap for sale!). There is alot of bartering to be done, but what you walk away with is wonderful.

Below are a few photos from the market. We spent only about 2 hours there, but you could definitely spend the entire day. We didn’t even get to see the entire market! There is a whole section with produce in the middle, and another section of just food. We left with quite our share of Guatemalan handicrafts though!
